WASHINGTON (MarketWatch)—The U.S. economy seems in relatively good shape making it possible that the U.S. central bank could raise interest rates once this year, Chicago Federal Reserve President Charles Evans said Wednesday.
“I will give you the punchline which is what you’re looking for which is I do think that perhaps one rate increase could be appropriate this year,” Evans told reporters at a briefing.
The U.S. economy is doing “quite well” especially given all the uncertainty and weakness abroad, the Chicago Fed President said in an interview with reporters.
