The Dallas area is hanging onto its perch at the top of the list of U.S. cities with the largest home price gains. Home prices in Dallas were up 9.3 percent from July 2014 levels. U.S. prices rose 6.9 percent in the same period. Houston was in second place on the list of top home price gainers. Even plunging oil prices haven’t caused Houston-area housing prices to slump.
“Home sales continued their brisk rebound in July and home prices reflected that, up 6.9 percent from a year ago,” said Frank Nothaft, chief economist for CoreLogic. “Over the same period, the National Association of Realtors reported existing sales up 10 percent and the Census Bureau reported new home sales up 26 percent in July.”
